University of Michigan Head coach Rich Rodriguez says that he's going to give all three of his quarterbacks a chance at competing when the Wolverines take on Western. I think that Rodriguez has College ball confused with Pro-ball... There's no preseason in college...

He's an Eagle..

Well... The Philadelphia Eagles IS the team that IS willing to take a chance on Michael Vick. He signed a one-year deal worth a reported 1.6 million with a two-year option. There hasn't been a whole lot of discussion about how Donovan McNabb feels about the whole thing. Either way, the Eagles team as a whole just got better. Whether Vick plays as a receiver, kick-returner or running back. His escapability with running the football is an asset to any team.

Tiger Woods took home another Bridgestone Invitational win yesterday, beating the field by four strokes. This marks Tigers 7th win, and his 70 PGA Tour win overall... Tiger is only 33 years old, and that's something that Sam Snead and Jack Nicklaus did in their fourties... Plus... heading into the PGA Championship this weekend, it isn't too bad going in with back-to-back wins...

Looking Better Than Before...

Daunte Culpepper hasn't looked this good since the last training camp he was this healthy in 2005. From his offensive coach Linehan (which happened to be his coach in Minnesota during his prime years.) to Head Coach Jim Schwartz, Culpepper has dropped down to a lean, muscular 265lbs and is really impressing the coachs and players. Daunte says that he has never had so much fun in training camp, as he is now.

However...

Here's the competition... Rookie QB Matthew Stafford, and Drew Stanton. In most circles Stanton is much of competition for both Culpepper and Stafford, he's been hurt a lot of his time in Detroit and even when he's been healthy, hasn't done enough to impress the coaches. But you never know... Who will it be???

Manning Gets Extension

There's a reason he's smiling... Eli Manning just received a 6-year extension from the New York Giants for 97-Million dollars... Making him the highest paid player in the NFL to date...

Are you kidding me!?!?! Why in the world is Eli the highest paid player in the league... Besides his name and somewhat decent play since he got into the league, he hasn't proved himself enough for that kind of salary!! Players like his brother, Tom Brady, LT... Those guys deserve the big paycheck. Not someone, who in opinion just trys not to make mistakes too often...

Let's see... He was the go-to guy in Green Bay... Then the go-to guy in Denver... And to be completely honest... I had no idea that Javon Walker was a Raider!?!?! That's how much he's impacted the NFL world in my opinion. Last season after an injury that sidelined him for the season, he wanted to retire. The sad part was that he had just signed a 55-million dollar contract with Oakland!! Well, after a surgery that the press is referring to as a "mystery surgery" (whatever that means..) Javon is ready to get back on the field to re-introduce himself to the world... I'm sure you're holding your breath just like me... Oh look... a black cat!!

Well... Maybe THIS time he'll really mean it. Brett Favre called Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress yesterday to tell him that he will not be coming out of retirement to play for the Vikings this season. Favre says that he feels he wouldn't be able to perform at the level he needed to, to play. Eventhough he did have surgery done on his old shoulder, and was throwing the ball good. Favre still complained about pain in both of this ankles and knee. So... Hopefully people like me in the "Sports Media" world, can finally put this one to bed...

Meanwhile... ESPN took a poll of viewers across the country on whether the Minnesota Vikings should go after Michael Vick. Surprisingly, 60% of the nation said that they should...

The Manhattan District Attorney wants Plaxico Burress to go to jail, directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200 dollars... Plaxico Burress had agreed to spend one year in jail, but now prosecutors are demanding two years in jail... Ah... Michigan State must be sooo proud...

Today is the 19th Annual Delta County Scholarship Golf Outing at the Escanaba Country Club. This is a great event that pulls funds together to provide assistance for people who need help with college tuition.

Last year, I won the "longest drive" contest... Hope the swing is up to par again this year...

So Brett Favre realizes that time is cutting short on him deciding whether or not to play this season for the Minnesota Vikings. Favre has said that his shoulder that he had sugery on feels fine, and he's been throwing just fine as well. He's been practicing with high school kids in Mississippi, and has since stepped up his workout another day. His main concern, is that his arm won't hold up for an entire season. Sometimes... You just have to trust your gut and make a decision... MAKE ONE ALREADY FAVRE!!!!

Six weeks after Phil Mickelson's wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer... Phil's Mother was just notified that she also has been diagnosed with breast cancer... Much of my prayers go out to the Mickelson family during this challenging time...

Daly recently had a surgery that shrunk his stomach, so he was also sporting a thinner "new" Daly for fans to see... And there were definitely fans... 300 to be more exact... Tiger Woods was in 12th place at the start of the day in the final round of the Memorial Championship... He put into that "tiger 12th gear" and birdied the 17th & 18th, and won the Memorial by one shot... As Jack Nicklaus handed Tiger the trophy, he said that if he didn't win teh U.S. Open in two weeks, he'd be surprised...

Michael Vick was released from jail, and allowed to serve his final two months at his home... Fans eagerly awaited Vicks arrival outside his house...

I feel bad for the guy... Having to spend two months confined to THIS house... Ahhhh...

Mickelson Is Done For The Season...

It's a sad day for golf fans all over the world... Today #2 golfer in the world Phil Mickelson announced his leaving the PGA Tour indefinitely. The reason... It's a good one... His wife Amy has been diagnosed with cancer. Phil is going to take as much time as he needs to tend to his wife and family...

I know that on Sports From the Sidelines, we generally joke around about atheletes and whatnot. But things like this, and people like Phil Mickelson remind us that it's just a sport, it's just a game. Best of luck to the Mickelson family...
